Everyone loves a surprise. That’s why Toyota has created what they call the “Sleeper Camry.” No, the inside of the car is not fitted with a bed to help you catch some shuteye. In fact, the only clues you’d have that this Camry is different, just from looking at it, are the tires. They look a little…racey.
As CNN Money reminds us, the regular Toyota Camry is a “front-wheel drive car powered by four- or six-cylinder engine” pumping out 268 horsepower. It’s the most reliable, best-selling sedan on the market.
The Sleeper Camry is a little different. Powered by a 5.7 turbocharged V8 engine, this Camry roars in at 850 horsepower. Chuck Wade, Toyota Motorsports Technical Center Director, says, “This Camry is the ultimate sleeper–it definitely has the element of surprise on its side.”
Sadly, this ride has only got one seat. But, when you are going that fast, who needs company? Toyota presented the Sleeper Camry at SEMA this year. We here at Lake Toyota love to see Toyota making compelling concepts cars that push the limits of design and power!

The new market model seeks to bring a more uniform voice to Toyota; from products, to marketing, to everything else. “The campaign centers on a pivotal message: One bold choice leads to another,” said Jason Schragger, head of the Total Toyota initiative and Chief Creative Officer at Saatchi & Saatchi LA. “Through our research, we know buying a car today means buying the label that goes along with it. The boldness of the Camry’s new redesign communicates an unexpected, emotional thrill, and we wanted to capture that spirit of imagination and zest for life while connecting with consumers in meaningful and relevant ways.”
The new Camry campaign will cross many media platforms, including some great new television spots. The first one, called “Guitar,” stars none other than legendary B. B. King. That’s just one of several new commercials, though, so keep your eyes peeled for those. Coming later this year is an all-new Toyota Camry, re-worked from bumper to bumper!
The exterior styling has been updated with a more aggressive look, also sporting a widened stance. The new headlamps offer LED low and highbeams with auto leveling with LED daytime running lights. You’ll also be able to choose from a selection of 10 different paint colors!
Looks aren’t all that were updated though. The new Camry presents premium materials and features a new center stack that is better at accommodating modern personal items like smart phones with a 12V power port, USB, and even wireless charging for compatible devices. The body structure features more spot welds in critical places to improve rigidity and handling.
The interior also has new technology that aims to curb driver distraction. A 4.2” TFT screen between the gauges displays audio info, navigation, and more that helps you keep your eyes towards the road and not down at the center stack.

When the 50 Millionth Toyota customer was identified by the automaker, they decided to throw a bit of a surprise his way. NYPD officer, Michael Dee, can consider himself one lucky individual as Toyota’s 50 Millionth customer in the US. The 2013 Toyota Camry he bought earlier this year made him eligible for a showering of gifts from the automaker. First, he was gifted with a paid-off auto loan for his new Camry. In addition to this outstanding surprise, he was also gifted a brand-new 2013 Toyota RAV4 free of charge!

Each year, J.D. Power and Associates compiles responses to its Initial Quality Survey from over 80,000 individuals who have purchased or leased a new vehicle. These surveys are sent out at 90 days of ownership in order to ensure that owners are familiar with their new vehicle. For this year’s Initial Quality Awards, the 2013 Toyota Camry earned the Segment Award as the top midsize car on the market.
These surveys ask owners for their honest opinion about a new vehicle in order to find out which cars have common problems and which are engineered to a higher standard. The 2013 Toyota Camry, known for its comfortable interior, modern design, features and tech, and an available 40 mpg hybrid model, scored very well in surveys, outperforming the competition in this very crowded segment.

A recent publication by the Transportation Research Institute at the University of Michigan shows some encouraging trends in the automotive industry. The average fuel economy of all vehicles sold in the United States over 2012 came out to 23.8 MPG. This is a full 1.3 MPG greater than in 2011 and 2.9 MPG higher than back in 2008. While these may seem like small changes, it is impressive considering the sheer number of vehicles sold by all manufacturers in the United States last year. These results show that the movement for more efficient vehicles is gaining momentum.
These increases come as a result of several influencing factors. First, automotive manufacturers are offering more and more fuel efficient vehicles thanks to the C.A.F.E. regulations that call for improved fleet fuel economy. Higher gas prices also influence the demand for more fuel efficient vehicles and when buyers do purchase new, efficiency is a large factor.
